The London Fire Department responded today to a chemical release and explosion at a commercial business. Upon arrival, fire units quickly established control of the scene and initiated decontamination (Decon) operations to ensure the safety of both employees and first responders.
As part of the response, the London Fire Department also assisted with hospital decontamination procedures, ensuring proper treatment and protection for anyone potentially exposed.
The chemical involved in the incident has been identified as Hyperflex (Acid Sanitizer), which contains phosphoric acid and nitric acid. While this product is corrosive and can cause significant health effects with direct contact, we are relieved to report that no life-threatening injuries have been reported at this time.
London Fire Department personnel worked closely with partnering agencies to contain the hazard, protect the public, and provide medical support. Mayor Handley was kept apprised throughout the situation.
