Look for the designated Baby Box on the outside of the fire station. Google Maps routes to the station address, not necessarily the box entrance.
Get Google Maps DirectionsA Safe Haven Baby Box is a specially designed, climate-controlled device installed in an exterior wall of the fire station.
The box allows an eligible newborn to be safely surrendered without the parent having to enter the building or speak directly with emergency personnel.
Once an infant is placed inside and the exterior door is closed, the system alerts responders, who retrieve the infant and ensure appropriate medical care is provided.
The system is designed to protect the infant while allowing the surrendering parent to remain anonymous, as permitted by law.
Kentucky's Safe Infants Act allows a parent to safely surrender an infant who is less than 30 days old at an authorized location, including an approved Safe Haven Baby Box, when the legal requirements are satisfied.
The law is intended to prevent unsafe infant abandonment, protect newborns, and provide a safe option for parents experiencing a crisis.
Following a safe surrender, the infant receives necessary medical attention, and the appropriate child welfare authorities are notified.
Facing an unexpected pregnancy or feeling unable to care for a newborn can be overwhelming. Help is available, and there are people ready to listen without judgment.
